Choosing a colour
How red tile changes your pool water
Red is the strongest colour you can choose. Water changes red more than most colours, so here is what to expect.
Water softens red
Water absorbs red light faster than blue light, so red tile can look darker or more muted the deeper it sits. It usually looks richest in shallow areas.
A strong accent
Red works well as a waterline band, a spa, steps or a feature wall next to a calmer main colour.
Metallic and glossy reds
Metallic reds shimmer and shift in the sun, while plain reds look more even and deeper.
Light matters
Red looks warmest in full sun. In shade or on a cloudy day it reads darker and quieter.
Best way to choose: order a $5 sample, wet it, and look at it in your own yard in morning sun and in shade.

Will a red tile pool look red?
In shallow areas and above the waterline it can. In deeper water the red usually looks darker and softer, because water absorbs red light. Most people use red as an accent, and a wet sample in your own yard is the best test.
Is red a good colour for a whole pool?
It is possible, but it is a very strong look, and the colour changes with depth. Many clients use it for a feature area instead. Call us on 1-800-866-0695 and we can talk through your idea.
What is the difference between 25 mm and 50 mm tile?
25 mm tile is glass mosaic on 12 x 19 in sheets, 4.6 mm thick, and a box covers 21.5 sq ft. 50 mm tile is 5.5 mm thick and a box covers 15.6 sq ft. The larger 50 mm tile has fewer grout joints, and the 25 mm tile gives a finer, more detailed look.
What does special order mean?
A special order tile is not in stock right now. You can still order it online, and it usually takes about 8 to 10 weeks to arrive. Call 1-800-866-0695 and we can confirm the timing for your tile first.
How much are samples and how long do they take?
A sample is 3 x 4 in and costs $5, and the $5 is credited toward your tile order. Sample shipping is free in Canada by UPS and takes 2 to 5 business days across Canada. See ordering samples.
How long does delivery take?
Tiles that are in stock usually arrive in 3 to 5 business days in eastern Canada and 7 to 12 business days in western Canada. Special order tiles take about 8 to 10 weeks. These are estimates, so call 1-800-866-0695 if you have a deadline and we will confirm the timing for you.
How many boxes do I need?
Measure the surface in square feet and divide by the coverage of one box: 21.5 sq ft for 25 mm tile and 15.6 sq ft for 50 mm tile. The pool tile calculator does this for you, and we are happy to check your numbers.
Can I mix different tiles in one pool?
Yes. Many pools use a main colour with an accent or waterline band. Order samples of each tile, set them side by side, and call 1-800-866-0695 if you would like help with the layout.
